Crash Reel
Crash Reel è un film documentario che racconta la storia del famoso snowboardista americano Kevin Pearce. Il film parte dalla rivalità epica tra Kevin e Shaun White, e devo dire che mi sono sempre piaciuti i film che parlano di rivalita’. Ma cio’ che piu’ mi ha colpito di questa storia e’ il calvario incredibile che Kevin deve affrontare dopo un drammatico incidente. Durante un allenamento, Kevin cade e sbatte violentamente la faccia sul ghiaccio riportando un terribile trauma cranico. Pur salvandosi, Kevin si sveglia in una realta’ difficile da accettare: putroppo non potra’ mai piu’ essere quello di prima. Il film incrocia temi legati all’agonismo ed al prezzo da pagare per rimanere al vertice ma anche dice della forza di una famiglia, quella di Pearce che non lo abbandona mai. The Crash Reel parla di sport e di business che spinge gli atleti a rischi altissimi, di speranze infrante e di sogni ricostruiti, di amici e di fratelli, un film che parla dell’amore per questo sport. Lo snowboard e’ stata una vera e propria passione anche per me a un certo punto della mia vita. E anche io ho dovuto rinunciare ad uno sport come il calcio a causa dei troppi infortuni che ho subito. Durante il film mi sono spesso riconosciuto in Kevin, perche’ dover rinunciare a qualcosa di cui sei fortemente appassionato non e’ facile. Il film, pur essendo un documentario, va direttamente al cuore di chi lo vede me soprattutto insegna quanto sia importante proteggersi ed essere prudenti praticando questo tipo di sport. E’ grazie al film che ho deciso di farmi regalare un casco protettivo per quest’anno a Natale. Spero di tornare presto anche io sulle piste.

Ieri sera ho guardato questo documentario. Mi ha messo una grande tristezza vedere in che situazione vivono in Italia i giovani di oggi. Se questa e’ la realta’, chi ha voglia di fare un figlio in questi tempi?

Io sono Li
l film “Io sono Li” e’ la storia di Shun Li un’immigrata cinese che lavora a Roma in una fabbrica tessile facendo molto più del necessario per pagare il suo debito e far venire suo figlio, rimasto in Cina, in Italia. Per questo viene trasferita a Chioggia per fare la barista in un’osteria frequentata soprattutto da vecchi pescatori. Qui sorgono alcuni problemi, primo fra tutti la lingua, fortunatamente Li farà amicizia con un vecchio pescatore chiamato il Poeta (per la sua versatilità a comporre versi al momento), jugoslavo immigrato in Italia da ormai 30 anni. Tra Shun Li e il pescatore nasce piano una relazione che però sebbene solo agli inizi è malvista da tutti, sia italiani che cinesi. Per evitare anzi che influisca negativamente sulla possibilità che arrivi il figlio, Shun Li decide di interrompere la relazione e va a lavorare in una fabbrica import-export. Un giorno però molto prima del previsto arriva suo figlio dalla Cina con grande gioia per la madre, che però si chiede chi abbia pagato il suo debito. Il pensiero di Shun Li va subito al suo amico di Chioggia e cerca di informarsi, ma una amara sorpresa la aspetta. Il film e’ molto bello e da molto l’idea delle differenze di cultura tra Cina e Italia.
Michael Patterson, Eroe nel vento
Michael Patterson, the 43-year-old Georgia man who dived into a creek to save a 4-year-old girl from drowning and became paralyzed from the chest down during the rescue, died after spending three weeks in a hospital, The Associated Press reports.
Patterson’s family shared the news on Facebook.
Patterson’s bravery left many, including the woman whose daughter he rescued, stunned. “He jumped in head first and after I grabbed her, I looked back and he was floating on top of the water,” Carlissa Jones told WSB-TV.com after Patterson’s injury, which occurred on June 8.
Jones’ daughter, Javea, was able to be resuscitated. Patterson broke his neck during the dive. He also developed respiratory acidosis, pneumonia and a bacterial infection after the injury, according to Fox News. The medical problems that came after the broken neck contributed to his death, Polk County Coroner Trey Litesey told news outlets.
Patterson’s bravery was commended across the Web. Comments on the Yahoo News story after his injury reflected the immense respect people had for his actions.
One commenter wrote, “there really are no words to express the character of this man.” Another wrote, “now this is what a hero looks like.”
On Facebook, where Patterson’s friends and family had set up a page to raise funds for his care, there was an outpouring of sympathy.

Patterson’s dive was not the first time that he had demonstrated his bravery. A week before, he and another man had pulled a truck driver from his cab after the truck caught fire.
His mother told WSB-TV that her son didn’t see what the big deal was about his part in rescuing the man from the truck fire.
“He said he did what he thought, what he hoped anyone else would have done for him. That’s not a very common thing anymore, for anyone to care about someone they don’t know,” she told the Cedartown Standard.
Beijing meets Seattle
Yesterday I went to see the Chinese movie “Finding Mr. Right” although the Chinese title is 北京遇上西雅图 which translates to “Beijing Meets Seattle”. The film portrays a young Chinese woman named Jiajia, the materialistic girlfriend of a Chinese tycoon. In a ploy to gain U.S. residency, she comes to Seattle pregnant. She stays at a birthing center, where she meets a doctor, Frank, a Chinese immigrant and single dad. Jiajia loses contact with her wealthy boyfriend in China, and eventually Jiajia and Frank fall for each other. Later Jiajia’s boyfriend reappears and takes her back to China, where she can lead a life of comfort and luxury in Beijing. But Jiajia’s feelings for Frank win out and she decides to return to the U.S. to find him. It’s a romantic and touching story, sort of a remake of the movie “Sleepless in Seattle”. It’s interesting how the Tom Hanks and Meg Ryan’s story made a lasting impression on Chinese people. I guess in China people associate rain with romantic feelings and Seattle’s got plenty of rain… It’s also interesting to see a Chinese movie director exposing the audience to the social problems affecting the elite of the society in China.
The film touches a cross-national subject, one that may be popular among Chinese viewers but controversial in the U.S. — foreign nationals coming to the U.S. to give birth. There is a growing trend of wealthier pregnant women getting tourist visas to fly to the United States and give birth in America to make their babies American citizens. Connected to so-called maternity tourism, birthing-home operations have made headlines in California and New York. Recently, such operations in Southern California have been the target of loud complaints and protests from local residents. Los Angeles County has taken measures to crack down on such businesses.
The movie also touches topics that I have talked about in this blog like the stupidity and materialism of certain young girls in China, the downside of a fast growing economy that generates chaos and loss of values in the Chinese society. The movie also talks about the loneliness, confusion and suffering of Chinese young and beautiful ladies. It’s good to see that Jiajia finds the way to put her life back on track after moving to Seattle, almost implying that in the western world lies hope for Chinese women to regain sanity, once they are away from their poisonous life they have in China. And it’s interesting how western men are portrait in the movie: one character is a sperm donor, the next one is full of tattoos, a gay, an old rich man full of arrogance, a rude policemen… – pretty much not ideal candidates for a husband … While Frank, the Chines man and main character of the movie, stands out as the clear winner. He is a good man, humble, wise, caring, generous, a responsible father and a role model husband. He is “mr Right” indeed. It’s clear what the director message is, although love stories on movies are often dreams on celluloid… Real life and reality are a different story.
The movie obviously made me miss Seattle and my friends there. It was Alicia who invited me to watch it in a the theatre at the World Trade Center. Afterwards that she was expecting me to spend the night with her but yesterday, after watching the movie, I felt in a strange mood. If I spent the night with her I would have felt like a toy, and that didn’t make me feel comfortable so I asked her to drive me back home. I could see that she was a little bit disappointed but this time inside of me, something was telling me to be strong and follow my heart…

Se n’e’ andato in una notte al buio sull’autostrada A21. Il furgone del corriere per cui lavorava era dietro di lui in fiamme. Le cronache dicono che stesse camminando in mezzo alla carreggiata mentre il TIR che arrivava diventava sempre più grande difronte a lui. Difficile crederci, difficile immaginare che sia andata davvero così. Giacomo da ragazzino viveva a pochi centinaia di metri dal bar di mia madre. I suoi genitori avevano una rosticceria all’inizio di Via Vochieri anche quella a due passi. Quanti pomeriggi passati insieme con lui e Mamo. La sua passione erano le moto. E quando ci siamo rivisti ad Alessandria lo scorso Aprile saranno passati almeno vent’anni, ma anche quella volta, immancabile, è arrivato sulla sua moto. Era orgoglioso di quel mezzo. Era felice anche di aver ritrovato un amore perduto, la stessa donna che aveva amato quando era ragazzino. L’unica cosa che lo turbava era il lavoro, da un po’ di tempo si era messo a fare l’autotrasportatore per una ditta di Milano per poco più di mille euro al mese. Ma l’unica casa che aveva era quella dei suoi genitori ad Albenga. Su quel furgone che è bruciato quella notte ci dormiva spesso a Milano. Abbiamo anche parlato di aprire una pizzeria insieme da qualche parte un giorno. Fantasticavamo quasi fossimo ancora ragazzini davanti a un aperitivo sui tavoli all’aperto di un bar. Quando sono andato alla cassa per il conto aveva già pagato. Non so davvero come diavolo avesse fatto. Oggi ho letto su Facebook che quella moto la voleva vendere e che era tornato ad essere single. Chissà a che cosa avrà pensato camminando in mezzo all’autostrada quella notte. Poi il vento se l’è portato via. Ho solo un grande rimpianto, di non averlo chiamato per Natale per fargli gli auguri, ma è troppo tardi ormai. Addio Caro Giacomo, spero che adesso non soffrirai più.

I saw a beautiful Chinese movie title “You are the one II”. The following is a poem that a daughter reads to his father who has terminal cancer and is about to die. I thought that there was no better day to put it on my blog given the recent news.
It doesn’t matter if you see me or not

E’ il titolo di uno dei film piu’ belli che abbia mai visto. Mi e’ stato segnalato da Luigi che ringrazio. E’ diretto da Kong Kar Wai, il maestro di Hong Kong, passato alla ribalta con il celebre film In the Mood for Love. E’ un film intensamente poetico che racconta di uno scrittore, Chow Mo Wan, il quale proietta nel mondo fantasmagorico della creazione le proprie storie ed ossessioni. Chow Mo Wa e’ un frequentatore di feste ed appuntamenti mondani, ognuno dei quali diventa occasione per incontri sentimentali con donne bellissime ed elegantissime. E’ un susseguirsi di giochi, passioni, storie d’amore, con cui l’autore cerca attraverso la scrittura di conservarne il ricordo. Un film intensamente romantico, raffinatamente erotico che nasconde lasciando molto all’immaginazione. Anche i brani che accompagnano le scene sono azzeccatissimi. E’ un film sull’amore che tocca un tema che mi sta a cuore, e cioe’ che spesso amiamo solo ciò che non si possiamo avere. Personaggio femminile centrale e’ la sensualissima Zhang Ziyi che mi ricorda alcune donne che ho frequentato qui. Si tratta di una lussuriosa ragazza che come una mantide si diverte a “divorare i suoi amanti”, e che permette alla storia di scivolare via verso un’autodistruzione dove il sesso, il denaro e l’orgoglio sembrano avere la meglio sui sentimenti profondi dell’anima. Guardando il film mi sono identificato spesso con il protagonista Chow Mo Wan. Voglio riguardarlo attentamente e studiarlo bene quel cinismo elegante, spietato e quei modi affettati di Tony Leung interprete perfetto, e’ davvero un maestro e da lui posso imparare molte cose. L’unica diversita’ tra 2046 e la mia vita e’ che le storie che scrivo sono vere, mi accade spesso di sentire come se stessi vivendo in un film, in un mondo fantastico di cui sono io stesso l’autore. Guardare 2046 e’ stata un’autentica ispirazione per il perscorso di vita che sto seguendo e per le storie che intendo scrivere in futuro.
